An hour west of Cumberland, Swallow Falls State Park packs four waterfalls into a 1.25 mile loop through old hemlock forest, and Muddy Creek Falls at 53 feet is the tallest free falling drop in Maryland. Upper and Lower Swallow Falls share the walk, with Tolliver Falls the small one at 5 feet, and dogs can come. Sixteen falls make the radius. Laurel Falls is a flatter 1.5 mile out and back, and Niagara Falls, the local one, needs only a half mile.
