The city of Great Falls took its name from the string of drops the Missouri makes here, the same water that stalled Lewis and Clark's portage for weeks. Black Eagle Falls needs only a half-mile walk. Rainbow Falls stands 47 feet at the end of a mile and a half along the River's Edge Trail. Crooked Falls stretches the outing to three miles and Big Falls covers two. Dogs are allowed on all of these, and dams cap several of the drops, so expect engineering alongside the river.
